The scanner captures the part
The MetroY Ultra records the full geometry in one session, including the curved and freeform surfaces that a hand measurement never fully describes.

Scan, parametric CAD, drawing, finished partThe drawing is gone, the vendor closed, and the line is waiting. Bring the part, even a broken one. The Revopoint MetroY Ultra CMM Edition captures its geometry, CETS rebuilds an editable parametric solid and issues the drawing you own, then makes the replacement in a material that matches how the part actually fails.
Why plants send us the part
The MetroY Ultra records the full geometry in one session, including the curved and freeform surfaces that a hand measurement never fully describes.
We rebuild the scan as a parametric solid in STEP and native format, so the next revision is a dimension edit and not a second engineering job.
A part that broke in service will break again if copied exactly. The scan shows the wear and the fracture, and we recommend the change before quoting.
Every job leaves with a 2D drawing and the critical dimensions called out, so the part is documented for the next order or for another supplier.
CETS provides reverse engineering services to manufacturing plants, maintenance teams, machine shops and owners of equipment nobody supports anymore, across Puerto Rico and the US mainland. Typical jobs are obsolete equipment spares, discontinued OEM components, one-off parts that were hand made years ago, and fixtures that broke and need to come back stronger. Every job leaves with a parametric CAD model, an engineering drawing, the finished part and a written dimensional record.
Combining 3d scanning and reverse engineering in one shop is what makes the process short: the same scanner that captures the sample also checks the finished replacement against the new model before it ships.
Plants across Puerto Rico come to CETS for replacement parts the original supplier no longer makes: the worn part is scanned, rebuilt as a solid, and manufactured here, so the next one is a reorder.
The process
| Stage | What we do | What you get | Typical time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intake | Review the part or photos, agree on function, quantity and fit | Written quote and a committed date | 1 day |
| Scan | Full geometry captured on the MetroY Ultra CMM Edition, wear and deformation mapped | A scan record with the damaged areas identified | 1 day |
| Parametric rebuild | The mesh is rebuilt as an editable solid, designed for the chosen material | STEP and native files, yours to keep | 2 to 4 days |
| Drawing | 2D drawing issued with the critical dimensions and tolerances called out | The document that lets anyone make the part again | 1 day |
| First article | Print, finish and scan the part against the new model | One part to fit before the rest are made, with its deviation report | 1 to 2 days |
| Production | Balance of the order, same file, same settings | Parts plus the inspection record | By quantity |
Total: usually 5 to 10 working days from part in hand to first article approved.
What the scanner adds
The Revopoint MetroY Ultra CMM Edition captures the part as it is today, worn spots included. That record drives everything after it.
Scanner figures in Revopoint’s words: single-frame accuracy up to 0.015 mm*, working distance 200 to 400 mm, 5 blue-light scanning modes. Need the file and not the part? Our scan-to-CAD service ends at the drawing.
Obsolete and replacement parts
The machine still runs, the part that keeps it running is no longer made. We scan the last good one, or the broken one, and put it back into production.
The OEM dropped the model, merged with someone or quoted a lead time the line cannot wait for. The spare comes back with a drawing this time.
One part or a shelf of them, printed on the Form 4B or the Formlabs Fuse from the same file, with the inspection record on every batch.
Restomod and vintage
A restomod build needs the pieces nobody reproduces: the trim clip that cracked, the bracket behind the dash, the housing with the broken ear, the knob that matched the rest. The same applies to obsolete industrial equipment that is worth keeping alive.
Whether you call it restomod or resto-mod, the work is the same: scan the original, rebuild the solid, make the part.
Formlabs customer story · Eaton
In this Formlabs customer story, a plant team replaced spares and line tooling with nylon parts printed overnight on the same SLS platform CETS runs, instead of waiting weeks on machining or a supplier. The story belongs to Formlabs and Eaton; the process is the one on this page.

FAQ
Yes for anything with a fit, because the scan is taken from the physical part. We collect across Puerto Rico and receive shipments from the US mainland. Photos with a ruler in frame are enough for the quote, and the part follows once you approve it.
Many metal parts can come back in Nylon 11 CF or Rigid 10K when the loads allow. When they cannot, you still receive the parametric solid and the drawing, so a machine shop can cut it from our file.
Yes, and we recommend it when the failure mode is clear. The scan shows where the part wore or deformed, so the change goes where the damage was: a thicker section, a radius in place of a sharp corner, a different material. You approve every change before we print.
Typically five to ten working days from part in hand to an approved first article, depending on complexity. The quote goes out within one business day of receiving photos or the part.
